East Malvern Residence

The Avenue renovation in Malvern East was designed for a vibrant family, transforming their home into a spacious and contemporary living space. The project involved significant additions and improvements, balancing modern aesthetics with practical functionality. This project was a renovation of an existing home with a rear two-story addition, a new garage, and a pool.

The home features 5 bedrooms, a study, 4 bathrooms, a powder room, a combined kitchen, living, and dining zone, a kids’ retreat, a formal living room, and a double-car garage.

The site had excellent access from both a rear laneway and a wide, straight front street, facilitating the movement of steel, concrete, pumps, and trucks. This greatly eased the logistics of the build.

Unique architectural features of the home include European oak floors in a herringbone pattern, wrap-around highlight windows, and 4-meter ceilings in the rear kitchen and living zone. The home also boasts custom Skyrange steel handmade doors.

A notable challenge was constructing the upper sliding wall. Due to its size, it had to be built piece by piece in the area required. Each part was taken upstairs individually and then assembled in the room.

Kate Mcklusky and Finnis Architects led the design, bringing a blend of elegance and innovation. The European oak herringbone floors and wrap-around highlight windows added a touch of luxury, while the high ceilings in the living area created an open, airy atmosphere. The integration of a custom sliding wall on the upper level showcased the meticulous craftsmanship involved.

The Avenue project is a perfect example of how thoughtful design and skilled execution can revitalize a family home. The combination of high-quality materials, innovative architectural features, and practical solutions to construction challenges resulted in a stunning, functional space that meets the needs of a modern family.
