South Yarra Oban St Residence
This unique Victorian town house exemplifies what iSolar Builders excel at – over 12 months transforming a tired, rundown Victorian terrace built in the 1850s into a unique, two-story architectural masterpiece, to suit the needs of the owner’s growing young family.
This project – a collaboration between Amsellem Architects and iSolar Builders – features enormous glass skylights, bringing outside light deep into the interior of this once dark and dingy terrace. This clever use of angular plaster bulkheads and detailing accentuates the light-filled, contemporary interior. The same attention to detail has been carried through to the hiding of fixings in the staircase balustrade and the custom-built rear bi-fold doors, helping to seamlessly connect the interior and exterior spaces.
The location of essential facilities such as heating/cooling units and hot water systems was carefully considered and has been hidden on the building’s roof – to help maximise space and minimise clutter in the small rear courtyard.
The project threw out some unique challenges to the builder, with limited site access available only from the narrow rear walkway and careful management of the challenges associated with a complicated renovation sandwiched between neighbours sharing party plan walls.
iSolar Builders’ experience working on architecturally-inspired, inner-city renovations built to the highest quality and standards, was integral to the successful completion of this project – on time and on budget.
